Exceptional Pair of French Sterling SALTS Circa 1870 with Spoons

  RARE unique Design, Beautiful, Practical 2 SALT Cellars or Salerons in the Finest French Sterling Silver with Clear Baccarat Crystal Liners or Interieurs to protect the Silver. These Handmade Salt Bowls were born in Paris during the period of Emperor Napoléon III and if you remember the antique French Bath Tubs, you will see where the Silversmith took his Design. The Silver is finer than Sterling and clearly Hallmarked with the French .950 Silver Minerve #1 Hallmark and by the famous Parisian Silversmith, CARON, 89, rue de Turbigo, Paris. Please see other Silver Creations by Caron on my Site such as the Drageoir below. Great for Salt alone or Salt and Pepper or, whatever. There is a Pair of identical French Silver SALT SPOONS which in themselves are quite Rare tofind. As the Interieur Crystal Liners are handmade there are slight differences. XIXth Century RARE HANDLE for Gigot d'Agneau/Leg of Lamb

   UNSURPASSED Leg of Lamb Holder Clamp 'manche à gigot' used to hold a Leg of Lamb. The inlaid Silver, Gold & Mother of Pearl artistry on the Handle is exquisite and considering its use, this Handle is in near pristine condition. The Handle is made of Ebony Wood and is inlaid with Silver, Gold and Mother of Pearl. It is not signed. The Handle is 8" Long and weighs approx. 140 grams. Practical, Decorative and very Collectible.    Antique 2 pc Fish SERVING PIECES in solid French .950 Silver in near pristine condition. Normally the Handles on serving pieces are Silver but Hollow, not these. The Knife & Fork are very heavy, (290gr) and each is very very beautifully decorated & engraved. The Silver work on the Handles is exquisite & decorated on both sides. Made by Parisian Silversmith 'BOIVIN' who received his French Authority or, Installed in 1897. Reference is P. 144 Dictionnaire des Poinçons, d’Orfèvrerie. Also, French Minerve N°1 Hallmark indicating its the finest French Silver, finer than Sterling (Reference is the Silver Book, "Tardy, Les poinçons d'argent @ P.199).   RARE French finest Silver Salt Cellar, creeated by the unsurpassed Silversmith founded 1690, Odiot. Handmade Blue Baccarat Crystal Interior & Hallmarked with the Minerve N°1 (1838) indicating the finest French Silver, finer than Sterling (Reference is the Silver Book "Tardy, Les poinçons d'argent @ P.199). The Silversmith, Maître Orfèvre Charles Nicolas ODIOT, was Iinsculpé in 1838 in Paris (1838-1868). RARE to find Royal Family Examples. Heavy, weighing 160 grams.    This Boxed Set of 4 Crystal & French .950 Silver, finer than Sterling was made in Paris Circa 1940 when Quality, Workmanship and Detail were Important. Each Crystal Body is Hallmarked for Orfevrerie Christofle and each Cap is Hallmarked with the .950 French Silver Hallmark as well as the Silver Hallmark for Cardeilhac. Pair of Antique French Sterling SALTS, Bowls Circa 1870 Napoléon III

   Exceptional 19th Century set of 2 heavy and beautifully decorated French Sterling Silver Salt Cellars Hand crafted by DEBAIN, Paris. Not easy to find one of these let alone 2. The Interiors are heavy Blue Baccarat Crystal in excellent condition, again nearly impossible to find today. Being Hand made, there are tiny differences between the pair. I recently had to replace one for a Salt and had it blown in Paris for a cost of nearly $190. Each Salt Cellar is well hallmarked and numbered. Antique CHRISTOFLE Gallia Silver SAUCEBOAT, Art Deco Period, 1930 - RARE

   Brilliant Original Creation Made by Christofle-Gallia Paris and Designed by Christian Fjerdingstad Circa 1930. Christofle employed Fjerdingstad between 1924 and 1940. He was the chief designer of their Art Deco Collection. The Sauceboat is in the shape of a Swan with the Ladle serving as the head and Tail (Handle) of the Swan. Silver Hallmarks, 'Christofle' + 'Collection Gallia'. Dimensions: 11" Long with Ladle or 8" alone x 4" Wide. The Vice and the Screws are original and the Knife Blade as well as the Clamp are in heavy Inox or Stainless Steel which is practical. There are 4 clearly stamped French Hallmarks. The earliest is from the 'Association of Silversmiths' 1793 + P for Paris + Vieillard (1819-1838) + 'Coq ataquant' in a Rectangle + 'Tête de Minerve' turned Right for Paris.    Extremely fine, well detailed Hand crafted by a highly sought after London Silversmiths, Henry & John Lias. What is particularly striking about this Fruit or Desert serving Spoon is that in spite of its age, it is in near pristine conditon including the Gilding front & back of the Bowl.    One of the finest quality Tea & Coffee sets that I have ever owned. Elegant design , substantial looking and Rare. If you have been wanting a formal Sterling Silver Coffee & Tea Service, but wanted the FINEST quality at a great price, this is it! What is unique and unusual is that the set has was made with .925 Sterling Silver over Porcelain. Applying Silver over Glass or Porcelain dates from the 19th Century. I believe it to be either French or English, there are no marks and it was made Circa 1930. Workmanship is outstanding, with a classic formal design and in MINT condition, it looks as though it has NEVER been used!! RARE French Wine Jug (Verseuse) 1819-1838 belonging to the Count of Paris

   French Nobility Silver is difficult enough to find particularly since the French Revolution. This Wine Jug belonged to the French equivalent of the English King or Queen, the Comte de Paris. Finer than Sterling it was made in Paris by one of the most important French Silversmiths, VEYRAT, Jean-François who worked at 10 rue de la Tour, Paris. Heavy, good gauge weighing about 8 ozs / 234 gms. It is Hallmarked 6 times, including the important 'Vieillard, Silver Control France for the period 1819-1838. Engraved on the outside is the Royal Crown of the Count of Paris made during the 2nd Restauration Monarchy of his Royal Highness, Louis-Philippe 1st. His eldest son, Jacques, is the present Duke d'Orléans. Dimensions: 16,16cm high. CONDITION, QUALITY and Workmanship are excellent.

POLISHING Sterling or Silver Plate - HOW does one Polish or Clean SILVER?

  SILVER as a metal is softer than Bronze, Copper and Brass and one should not use Products designed for anything but SILVER. Silver acquires a Patina with age and proper care and it is this Patina which can easily be removed with improper cleaning &/or Polishing. Use a soft cotton cloth and if a product is to be used, choose one with no abresives. No matter what the Product, it is not necessary to use a Product often. A gentle polishing without any product should restore the Silver. Careful, because the scratching may not be visible to the naked eye. In the Silver Forum there has been a great deal of discussion about the same thing.

  One of the earliest & most Sumptuous pair of Salt Cellars I have ever seen in massive French Silver with Blue Crystal Liners. Each Salt has 4 Silver Hallmarks; the French 'Vieillard' Silver Hallmark indicating its the finest French Silver, finer than Sterling, (Reference is the Silver Book, "Tardy, Les poinçons d'argent @ P.199) used Circa 1819 & Hallmarked as well by the Silversmith, the Letters du Maître Orfèvre are "J *S Lion B" in a Diamond lozenge; 'Cèrés' in a Circle and a 'Crabe'. Made by Christofle Founder, Charles Christofle & created by Christofle when it was important to create a work of art.    Nearly impossible to find, extremely fine, antique Christofle plated Silver STRAWBERRY SPOON. Condition and Quality are exceptional. The Handle is decorated with Stawberries in very fine detail and the shovel portion is wide to accomodate the serving of this fruit. Back and front are detailed beautifully exhibiting the quality of old Christofle with the early Christofle Marks.    A Rare XIXth Century massive Silver Holder or Handle used for holding, carving and serving a Leg of Lamb. The handle is heavy and is beautifully carved with the screw and the rest being heavy plated silver and in excellent condition with some usage wear. The Silver work on the Handle is exquisite and considering its use, it is in near pristine condition. It is an unique piece which epitomizes the art of the French Silversmith. Hallmarked on the end of the handle with the Minerve forward 1 indicating that this silver is finer than Sterling. The Handle is decorated on both sides with detailed Heads and a decorative vase. It weighs over 180 grams & is 8.5" long.
